June 2019 Work Party
June saw a lot of progress on the railway.
The crossing panel was lifted and its rotten sleepers replaced with new ones which provide the correct cant for the area. For now, it is covered with ballast until we get time to build up a wooden cover.
The ballast retention boards were extended on the lawn section to prevent the track slipping away. Buffer stops were given a new coat of red paint, including some new ones in the carriage shed area and the fence at Ealing End is now more secure thanks to some custom made brackets.
A lot of time has also been spent installing track bonds and signal wires allowing a temporary signal system to be installed ready for the July open weekend! This was tested in the recent 30 degree weather which allowed two heat expansion problems to be found and corrected.
